OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR VPK

BEGINS JAN. 1ST OF EACH NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Florida’s Voluntary Pre-K Program (VPK) is a free educational program that prepares 4-year-olds for success in kindergarten and beyond.  Children must live in Florida and turn 4 on or before Sept. 1 of the school year in which they enroll.  If your child was born between February 2 and September 1 of the calendar year, you may postpone enrolling your 4-year-old until the following year when your child is 5.

Registration opens in January for the new school year.  You may register your child for VPK, by clicking on the GOLD FAMILY PORTAL button on our home page, where you will create an account and complete the application process. For step-by step directions, visit our guide here or you may contact the Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County, during our office hours, 8 AM to 5 PM, at 772-595-6363 (Family Services).

What is “Voluntary Pre-K”?
Florida was one of the first states in the country to offer free prekindergarten to all 4-year-olds.  Children must live in Florida and be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to be eligible.  (If your child’s fourth birthday falls Feb. 2 through Sept. 1 in a calendar year, you can postpone enrolling your child in VPK that year and wait until the following year when he or she is 5.)

This free program helps ensure ALL children are intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically ready to enter kindergarten!  Parents can apply online here and select from one of two programs: a school year program offering up to 540 hours of free VPK or the summer program which offers 300 hours of classes.

What is “School Readiness” Subsidized Childcare?
Parents who earn low to moderate income may qualify for financial assistance that will help pay a portion of the costs for early learning services for children BIRTH to kindergarten, and, when funding allows, up to age 13.  This is in addition to the free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program.

What is “Childcare Resources & Referral”?
Child Care Resources & Referral (CCR&R) is a FREE community service offering information and referral services to all families who are seeking:

  • Quality childcare information
  • Summer and holiday childcare solutions
  • Childcare services for a special needs child
  • Connections to other community resources
