Programs & Services for Parents
What is Voluntary Pre-k?
Florida was one of the first states in the country to offer free prekindergarten to all 4-year-olds. Children must live in Florida and be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to be eligible. (If your child’s fourth birthday falls Feb. 2 through Sept. 1 in a calendar year, you can postpone enrolling your child in VPK that year and wait until the following year when he or she is 5.)
This free program helps insure ALL children are intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically ready to enter kindergarten! Parents can apply online here, and select from one of two programs: a school year program offering up to 540 hours of free VPK, or the summer program, which offers 300 hours of classes.
What is School Readiness Subsidized Childcare?
Parents who earn low to moderate income may qualify for financial assistance that will help pay a portion of the costs for early learning services for children BIRTH to kindergarten, and when funding allows, up to age 13. This is in addition to the free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program.
