VPK and SCHOOL READINESS ASSISTANCE

What is Voluntary Pre-k?
This free program helps insure ALL children are intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically ready to enter kindergarten! If your child is four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019, you can apply online here, and select from several programs offering up to 540 hours of Pre-K education.

What is School Readiness Subsidized Childcare?
Parents who earn low to moderate income may qualify for financial assistance that will help pay a portion of the costs for early learning services for children BIRTH to kindergarten, and when funding allows, up to age 13. This is in addition to the free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program, which offers up to 540 hours for the school year or 300 hours during the summer program.

Food Bank offers free summer meals for kids

When schools close for summer, thousands of kids across the Treasure Coast who rely on the school cafeteria for breakfasts and lunches will not know where those meals will come from.

Treasure Coast Food Bank has an answer.

Its Summer Meals program begins May 30 to provide fresh- made breakfasts, lunches and snacks to children in Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties. The program has expanded this year with additional sites to provide meals to more students in locations near their homes.

“It’s no secret that summer is the hardest time for people who struggle to provide food for their families,” said Judith Cruz, President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank. “The Summer Meals program provides nutritious meals to any child who needs one. It lets kids be kids without worrying about where their next meal will come from.”

Each week day, kids will be able to walk in to a Summer Meals site and enjoy a fresh, nutritious meal at no cost to them. The Summer Meals program is open to all youth 18 and younger. Locations include community centers, churches, youth development organizations, and summer camps. Each site offers two of three meal options among breakfast, lunch, or a healthy snack. Meal times vary by site.

Typically the meals include fresh-made sandwiches and wraps, hand-made salads, and fresh cut fruits and vegetables. All the meals are made daily in Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Food Production Plant.

The program runs through Aug. 9, 2019. Parents can find a Summer Meals site for their children by visiting stophunger.org/sfsp.

Treasure Coast Food Bank expects to continue adding additional sites to offer the program throughout the summer. To learn more about becoming a Summer Meals site, call 772-446-1750 or visit www.stophunger.org/sfsp.

Glow Bowling Birthday Party

Join the folks at the Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County for a Glow Bowling Birthday Party at Superplay in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, July 31, from 7-9 PM. Your $10 admission includes two games of bowling and bowling shoes, birthday cake & lemonade, all to celebrate the 20th birthday of the Early Learning Coalition, in support of early childhood education, in St. Lucie County.

No bowling pledge sheets needed here as this is a P-A-R-T-Y not a bowl-a-thon, but you can bring the whole family out for glowingly great time.

We want you to party like it's 1999, which is when the ELC was established to promote early childhood education and administer the free Voluntary Pre-K program in Florida.
